This week I worked a little on my unconventional toilet paper project, but I mostly worked on gathering my pieces for the Halle Show, and also working with Shelby to make our unconventional material project. We got piano strings as our material and we first thought we wanted to make a tornado by bending the strings into circles. We started to make the circles then Mrs Sudkamp gave us the idea to do a wall hanging. We started to lay a pieces in different positions, and quickly found that this project was really cool and was going by really quick. We finished the project so we could put it in the Halle and we are really proud of it. I also put a mustang painting and last years unconventional material project, which is a clothespin lamp, into the Halle Show.
picture is example of what I am looking for... This week I started my new project, it is going to be a mirror with toilet paper roles on the outside. I folded and cut each role and I have began painting them. First I wanted to paint them yellow but it was so bright. Then I started using sparkly spray paint but that was taking to long and using to much. Finally I started using a silver metallic paint, it is a acrylic paint, and that is working perfect. This took pretty much all my week, any spare time I did have I worked on Illustration Friday.
I have finally completed my first project it has taken so long, but I have reached the end and I love the way it looks. I put the plastic bottles on it, but not without troubles. First we tried melting it to the back board, but the plastic only curled not melted. After a long try and some broken glass I gave up on having the plastic exposed. Instead I smushed the plastic between two pieces of glass and put that between the cardboard and the back board. I then put a wire on the back. I have started thinking about my next project and I would like to use toilet paper rolls, but I don't know how yet.
This week I finally finished the cutting out of my cardboard project... I so happy to be done with this part but I know I want to add something. So I have been collecting water bottles (mainly green) to melt in my peice. I also made a back piece that is harder so it's not so floppy, this also gave me a border to melt the plastic. I'm hoping to use the heat gun to melt the peice and I'm a little scared it may not work, but I'm hoping for the best!
I have worked on my cardboard peice a little this week but not as much as I would of liked. I has been really crazy this week... I worked on the cardboard on Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday had to many twist and turns. On Wednesday not much art was done because there was the chance of tornados, therefore not many (including me) didn't pull out there art because we knew there was a high chance of having to leave quick. On Thursday we went the libary to make a design for a 3D printer. And Friday many were not done in the libary so the ones who were went to MR. SANDS to judge Art History Games. My 3D print is an fat elephant but I have no pictures of it because it has not been printed, sadly...
This week I took a break from my cardboard project, I still have the same plan... It was just starting to get boring. So instead I worked on the pottery wheel, although the wheel is entertaining and messy I learned it wasn't for me... I found it hard to center and even harder to shape there fore I let the next person use it. I still knew the pit fired project was coming up so I wanted to work with more ideas with clay. And after seeing some pieces I really wanted to make a geometric shape... Sadly after cutting all the pieces out I realized that the pieces didn't fit together and I really wasn't loving it.
I worked on both of these things for most of this week and picked up my main project a few times. Next week I plan to work on my main project and try to finish it. I know it's been a slow week for my project, but sometimes the artist needs to step back, before they lose interest in the piece. |
