This process for these pieces was great, I loved working with the hump molds, stencils, and underglaze. I can't wait to work with hump molds in Sculpture 2. Using the underglaze was one of my favorite parts of this project, it left a cool effect on the pieces. It left an old and burnt look. I thought my product turned out great. If I could change anything I would of put more underglaze on the bowl.

There were many challenges in this project, but time was the most challenging. The project began to take to long. The longest part of the project was the flooring. The flooring had to be stained then cut and glued. In the future I would've chosen a different material for the walls.I loved working with my partner on this piece I thought that was the most successful part of the whole project.Overall I thought the project was a success.Erik and Martin Demaine-found that origami wasn't just art but a form of math. Mathematical origami artwork by Erik and Martin Demaine was part of the Design and the Elastic Mind exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in 2008, and has been included in the MoMA permanent collection. Between the Folds is a 2008 film documentary about origami. Thomas C. Hull- Hull's 2006 book Project Origami uses origami to teach math. He has co-authored two non-math origami books: Origami, Plain and Simple and Russian Origami, and he is on the Board of Directors of OrigamiUSA (a national non-profit arts organization). Éric Joisel is a French origami artist who specialized in the wet-folding method, creating figurative art sculptures using sheets of paper and water, without the use of any adhesive or scissors. Satoshi Kamiya is among the most advanced origami masters in the world. He began the art at age two, and began seriously designing more advanced models in 1995, and has since made hundreds of origami models Robert J. Lang is an American physicist who is also one of the foremost origami artists and theorists in the world. He is known for his complex and elegant designs, most notably of insects and animals. He has studied the mathematics of origami and used computers to study the theories behind origami. He has made great advances in making real-world applications of origami to engineering problems
I had many challenges during this project, because I had placed the clay to thin inside the mold. This made it very difficult to keep the halves together, the ear kept falling apart. I found the smoothness of the face very successful about my piece, but if I could do it over again I would of laid the pieces in the mold thicker and worked more on the handle. My piece is a vessel because is is a mug, which also makes it functional. I felt the mold process was extremely difficult, but also very entertaining. First I thought that molds were kind of cheating, but the I realized that it was difficult because the pieces were fragile. I thought my piece was successful and I used it for my vessel project (after adding a twist). I feel that the smoothness of the face made my peice successful. For this piece I wanted the form of the piece to be just as cool as the possible unique color. Therefore, I added unique shapes too the cylinder shape. I love this style of work because you don't know what your going to get. The process of the leaf was suppose to be pretty simple, roll out the slab, roll leaf into the slab, the fire and paint, but of course like most art it became more complicated. I was ill for a few days which gave my piece time to mold and me less time to give it shape. The when fired the leaf cracked and didn't fit back together correctly. I saw this as such a good issue, but really it is what made my piece special. I had hot glued the pieces back together and painted the glue gold. I feel as if my piece was very successful because it turned out different. If I could of done anything different I would of pit fired the leaf pieces. Mrs. Sudkamp's demo lead me to this piece. Railroad Tile- I believe the tile was successful, but I wish I would of made the lines sharper. I would also hade used more glass in the melted glass section if I had the chance to do it again. Cardboard Wolf- I think the wolf turned out great. I really liked working with cardboard and plan to use it in future projects. I would not changed a thing in this piece. Paper Flowers- I believe this piece turned out ok, I just wish I had made the stems more realistic. I did not enjoy working with paper. The artist that I have chosen is Coosje van Bruggen. She was born in the Netherlands in 1942. A very interesting thing I find about her is that she actually has her degree in history not art. With this history degree she taught art history and fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts. Her work inspires me because of the way she lays them with the land, she uses the surroundings of the piece to pull it together. I am drawn to her work because it not as realistic. I also like the size of her art, it's huge but still works with the land! I feel that my cup was not successful because I had planed to much with the time we had. I also wish that I would of used more color. |
